Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Kimber Herndon, 55, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, died of cancer at home on October 4, 2020. She was a brilliant artist and garden designer who attended Ringling College of Art and Design, Atlanta College of Art, and Georgia State University. Kimber was a creative, kind person who loved animals, and they loved her too. An out and proud lesbian who built a loving, happy life of more than 31 years with her wife Lynn Kear, she is survived by Lynn; sister-in law Kaye Kear (Joan Moran); parents Yvonne and Dwain Herndon; brothers Myles Herndon and Devin Herndon (Ginnifer); nieces Amanda and Maya Herndon and nephew Mason Herndon; friends Mindy Hill, Kat Callahan, and Olive Evans; friend and former Florapolitan business partner Vicki Proano and their many wonderful clients; and Davy and Cora, her beloved dogs. She was preceded in death by Buster and Henry. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter or Second Life Atlanta. Kimber left this world a better, more beautiful place. She was very loved and will be missed.

I am so glad Kimber came into my life. Not just for her landscaping skills at our business but for her friendship and humor. We had many wonderful conversations. She was an accomplished rock climber with whom I shared days with her on the rope. She relished nature and all living things on our planet. Indeed, she was a most special person and has left an great impact on my life. She will be sorely missed. Climb on, Kimber! You’ll always share my rope.
Kimber, sent uplifting messages, photos of flowers in her garden, and pictures of her paintings to me. I had moved to an Assisted Living facility after my husband died in February. She was in perilous health but reached out to comfort me. Our daughter, Mindy and her wife, Katrina, over the years when we visited, had get togethers with Kimber and Lynn for many years. We always enjoyed those times with them very much.
We all lost a gracious and kind soul. I will miss my big sister. Kimber and I and our little brother started out life being adopted by two wonderful parents; how fortunate for us! Our parents were able to send Kimber to Europe where she got to see the fine arts and the like…me, I got a go-cart. Clearly, I got the better deal on that! As we grew up and started our own families she began to be known to me as aunt Kim. She always was involved, behind the scene, making sure that I was making appropriate decisions regarding kids. She always had mine and my children’s best interests at heart. RIP sister.
Love,
Myles
Some of my favorite art… Kimber was an artist of many mediums.
Who’s got it? 85!! Man, I’m going to miss that!
Another one of Kimber’s littlest fans, Chiko.
I hope my “Kroji” continues to make you laugh a little “too long!”
Jo here, from the on line Cancer Care group. You are never alone Lynn, although 31 years is a long time it is never enough. One year ago…no more struggling. You did right by her. Love Jo
