McDonough Southern Cremations & Funerals
Kris Monica Powers was born on May 19, 1966 to the daughter of Sherman and Aretha Powers. Kris accepted Christ at an early age. Kris was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and graduated from Montebello High School, Denver, CO. She went on to attend Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL. Kris was previously employed at AT&T. Her currently employment for several years was with Assurant in Atlanta, GA. In February 1995, Kris achieved her greatest accomplishment, when God blessed her with a baby boy, whom she named Tavarres Young. Tavarres is Kris pride and joy. Kris was current member of Berean Community Church where she was a 2020 graduate of their Master life Discipleship Class. Kris will be greatly missed by all her family, classmates (Montebello Warriors 4life), co-workers and friends.

Will truly miss Kris. She was a true gift from God
Kris was such a genuine person with a loving heart. She has n Been my friend for over 25 years. I am really going to miss her laughter and her craziness.. We had a lot of good times together. Tavares’s I will always be here for you. Love you
Tavares was my student when he was at Hambrick Elementary in Stone Mountain. I have many memories of Kris being present at the school. She was always there during special school events to support Tavares. She made sure to let me know that she was just a phone call away if Tavares had any “issues” 🙂 She was the type of parent that all teachers loved. Tavares was a great student and I’m sure it was because he had a no-nonsense mother like Kris. My prayers for the entire family. Brenda (Watkins) Barnes
