Laura Bel Spencer

Laura Bel Cheney Spencer, 94, died June 30, 2020 in Atlanta after becoming ill in the weeks prior to her death. She was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great grandmother, sister in-law, aunt, great aunt and cousin. Laura Bel had a great sense of humor, an inquisitive mind and a tremendous love of family. She looked forward to events that would bring everyone together. Tiny in stature, she was fierce about the things she believed in. Her infectious smile was wonderful to behold. She enjoyed traveling and loved cooking. Her fried chicken was legendary. In her early years she enjoyed doing hair. She shared lifelong close relationships with her sister Mary Proctor (deceased) and her sister in-law, Sarah Cheney, with whom she shared her last Christmas in 2019. She was a longtime member of Greater Springfield Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. Laura Bel's son Benjamin (Jit) Cheney preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn husband Charlie Spencer, sons Walter G. Carter (Theaudrey and Charlie R. Cheney (Andrea). Her grandchildren are Walter Eugene Carter, Rontario Walker, Christie Cheney Blackwell (William), Bennika Walker and Shanetta Walker. Her great grandchildren are Rontario Walker Jr,, Lindsey Blackwell and Sidney Blackwell, Tienna Walker and Darion Cheney. In addition, there are relatives too numerous to name that include great great grands, nieces and nephews,her sister in law, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends that loved her. She will always be missed and thought of with a smile.
