Lawrence Edward Hilton

January 4, 1956 ~ February 25, 2021

Lawrence Edward Hilton, AKA Larry, was born on January 4, 1956 in East Meadows, Nassau County Medical Center, Long Island, NY. He transitioned into eternal life on Thursday morning February 25, 2021 at the Care One Hospice Home Help Care Facility located in Decatur, GA. Lawrence was the second oldest of five boys born into the union of late James and Mary Hilton. He grew up in Roslyn Heights, NY and subsequently was educated through the Roslyn Public School System where he attended East Hill Elementary School and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1975. Upon completing high school, Lawrence began developing work ethic by taking jobs at fast food restaurants. It wasn’t long before he realized that fast food work was not his passion so he sought and found employment with Sun Harbor Manor Nursing Home. It was there that he realized loving and caring for the elderly was his true passion. In 1986, Lawrence began working concurrently as a part time employee at St. Francis Hospital Heart Center. In 1989, in addition to his normal duties, Lawrence successfully completed the prescribed curriculum for becoming a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. In 2004 Lawrence terminated his part time job at St. Francis and continued working at Sun Harbor Manor until he retired in 2007. The Hilton Family was well known, loved, and respected in their community. Hardly a single day would pass without friends stopping by just to say hello. Lawrence, being the excellent cook that he was, enjoyed cooking and hosting dinner parties. Lawrence was very close to his mother and loved her dearly. Nothing brought more joy and delight to him than taking her shopping and buying her new clothes in preparation for their annual summer vacation to Atlanta, GA to visit her mother (his grandmother). While growing up, Lawrence and his family attended church regularly. When he was a young man, he became a member of the Assembly of Prayer Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Enoch W. Terry. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Rev. Terry. In 2007, Lawrence moved from New York to Decatur, GA. In 2017 his underlying health issues began to manifest and sadly he succumbed to his illness. “Lord Help Me To Run This Race” - This was Lawrence’s favorite quote. The Lord heard his cry and allowed him to cross the finish line of mortality. In addition to his parents, Lawrence is predeceased by his brothers Michael (Sheila) and David (Connie), and his niece Lisa (Theodore) Burkley, his great nephews Hezekiah “Hezzy” and Nathaniel Burkley, his aunts, First Lady Pauline (Bishop Henry W.) White and Rev. Dr. Amanda Hayes, his uncles Homer and Ronald Strickland, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends who loved him so dearly. Services will take place March 5, 2021 at 10am at Southern Cremations & Funerals Columbarium. Entombment to follow. Please click here to attend the service via livestream.

  6. I keep thinking about how we first met on the playground while in 5th grade in Roslyn Heights Elementary School, NY. We did a lot of reminiscing about our friendship over the last year. We have been thru good and bad times. But when needed we would show up for each other without hesitation. You are my friend/brother and will always have a special place in my heart. We were family, that’s how close our friendship was. I think about the time when my sister Pam passed away and you drove me down to Baltimore. I even went with you to visit your family in Atlanta. Just a few things I can think of right now or I will be writing a book because there are so many. It is sad to think of you not being here, but glad that you are not in any more pain. God has called you home and I know you got that Crown you always talked about. Rest on my friend. Until we meet again.
