Linda Claxton

Linda Port Claxton, 73, of Newnan, Georgia passed into glory on Friday, September 25, 2026. She passed away suddenly but was with a dear friend at the time.

Linda was born on April 10th,1953 in Atlanta, Georgia and spent her childhood in Palmetto. She is the daughter of the late Gertrude (Rude) Port and Louise (Grenga) Port.  In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her son from her first marriage, Ronnie Claxton; brother, Gary Port; and husband, Lewis E. Claxton, Jr.

Linda graduated from Campbell of Fairburn High School in 1972. During High School, she worked at Newnan Hospital and found her love of caregiving. After graduating from Clayton Nursing School as a Registered Nurse, she began her nursing career at Bolton Road and South Fulton Hospitals. Due to health reasons, She reluctantly finished her nearly 50 years as a nurse after many years of service at Southern Regional Hospital.

On July 10, 1982, Linda married Lewis Claxton, Jr, the love of her life. In Lewis, Linda found someone who made her laugh, a travel companion, and a father to her son Ronnie.

Linda leaves behind a legacy of deep friendship and caring. She had a heart of gold and was a faithful wife and caregiver to Lewis.

Among those who will cherish their time on earth with Linda are her sister, Mary Ellen Goode (Randy); Lewis’ sons Gene (Kim) Claxton of Lenexa, Kansas; Chuck (Debra) Claxton of Greenville, Indiana; grandsons Tanner and Tucker (Gene and Kim),  Bruce (Kate), Daniel (Liz) and Josh (Chuck and Debra); her great-grandchildren  Maddie (Bruce and Kate) and Griffin (Daniel and Liz); and a number of close friends and extended family. Linda loved the Lord, her  friends, and family. She loved many fur babies through the years including Bear, Scootie, Princess, Molly and Holly, and, most recently, Baby and LewLew.

The family would like to recognize her close friends who helped Linda when Lewis battled dementia and decreasing physical mobility. They were her second family and always included her in their family gatherings both before, and especially after, Lewis passed. Many thanks to Kathleen and Steve Hulgan, Kathryn Gray, Eddie Clark, Christina Lee, and Vickie Kinney. Linda’s family appreciates everything you’ve done for Linda through the years.
