Linda May Ewers, affectionately known as “Miss Dee” was called to
her eternal home on Wednesday 17 April 2019 at age 79. She was
born Linda May Roberts on 6 December 1939, in Fort George St Ann,
Jamaica to parents Viola and David Roberts and was one of eight
children. At age 6 Linda went to live with her Aunt Muriel in
Chapelton, Jamaica.
Linda was educated at Shortwood teachers College in Jamaica. She
taught at several schools culminating with being hired to head the
science department at Brown’s Town high school. She emigrated to
the United States of America in 1979. There she continued her formal
education and earned a bachelors degree in psychology from Rutgers
University in New Jersey and a masters degree from Liberty university
in Virginia.
Linda worked in various positions at AT&T starting in New Jersey and
continued with the same company when she along with her family
relocated to Orlando, Florida. She is the author of a book entitled “I
Know That My Redeemer Lives” which she wrote and published in
2004. Linda’s deep passion for helping people inspired her to found
“The House Of Refuge Ministry” an organization designed to help the
less fortunate both physically and spiritually. She also frequently
volunteered as a youth counsellor at correctional facilities for
adolescents. In her spare time Linda liked to play the piano.
Linda’s family and her zeal for christ comprised the majority of her
time. She was an ardent and uncompromising follower of the Lord
and maintained her unshakable faith until the very end.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband of forty eight years,
Robert Herskell Ewers. By her sisters Merlene and Esmine and her
brother Segree. She is survived by her 6 children Knox, Garth, David,
Floyd Debbie and Paula; twelve grand children and one great
grandchild, two brothers Lebert and Whitcliff and two sisters Miriam
and Doreen as well as a host of nieces nephews and friends.
