Marie Carithers

Marie Johnston Carithers (Nanny), of Murrayville, Georgia and formerly of Gainesville and Fairburn, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 25, 2009. What a homecoming that must have been. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Allison Carithers; a son and daughter who died at birth; her parents Galanus and Zula Hollingsworth Johnston; and four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her daughters: JoAnne (Hugh) Webb, Joyce (Bob) Mashburn; son Bob (Deebe) Carithers; sister Doris Fields; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and her beloved friends Doris Harbold, Rayna Hoagland, Fran Combs, Bertie and Larry Schwind and Dr. Linwood Zoller who was always there when she needed him. She was a Christian woman who raised her children in a Christian home. She was a member of Shadnor First Baptist Church in Union City, Georgia. She was an inspiration to her grandchildren of five generations and beloved by all of us. She had numerous "Bingo" friends in the Gainesville and surrounding areas who she enjoyed being with almost daily for the last thirty six years. Nanny enjoyed every minute of her life and will be missed by so many people. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Holly Hill Funeral Home 431 SW Broad St. Fairburn, GA 30213. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 2:00 pm, at the chapel of Holly Hill Funeral Home in Fairburn.
