Marquise CaAngeles Grant

November 19, 1985 ~ November 5, 2021

On November 19, 1985, God used Linda Woodard Grant as the vessel to transform Marquise CaAngeles Grant into this world. Marquise transitioned into the spiritual realm to reunite with his late father, Richard Martina Grant, on Friday, November 5, 2021. At 2 years old, Marquise was excited for his father to come home each day. He watched as his father would remove his uniform shirt and hat, anxiously awaiting the moment he could put them on himself. He walked around in both, stumbling but not once did he fall. It was at that age that Marquise decided he wanted to be a police officer just like his dad. At the age of 5, it was discovered that Marquise was extremely gifted. When asked in Kindergarten what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said a police officer just like my dad. Marquise watched his father study law enforcement. As a master law enforcement officer, Richard was the best role model for Marquise as he prepared himself for his dream career. From policies to codes to laws, Marquise studied any and all material he could get his hands on that related to law enforcement. He was preparing himself intellectually, mentally, and physically to fulfill his lifelong dream. For career day in the 6th grade Marquise dressed up as a police officer. His career aspirations from the age of 2 had not changed. He still wanted to be a police officer just like his dad. In the 8th grade, Marquise started working with the Atlanta Police Department via the Explorer program. This program was designed for children that wanted to be police officers. Marquise began to work with a law firm in the 8th grade to learn the ins and outs of the law. By the time he graduated high school, he was well versed in many facets of being a police officer. Marquise Graduated from DM Therrell High school with honors, and then went on to attend Georgia Military College where he studied Criminal Justice. .At the age of 18 Marquise began his career as a corrections officer for Union City. He was too young at the time to carry a weapon. Once Marquise turned 21, he was hired by the Union City Police Department. His dream from the age of 2 had come true. He was finally able to protect and serve his community. Marquise was able to fulfill his purpose in this life. After working with Union City for many years, Marquise joined Fairburn Police Department where he excelled and quickly moved up in rank. Marquise also worked with the GBI as a Task Force Agent. As a law enforcement officer, Marquise created numerous programs to bridge the gap between the community and the police department. He created programs for at-risk youth and worked with the school system. Marquise worked with local businesses and residences to assist with security and safety issues. Marquise was able to see the impact he made on his community firsthand. People of all ages regularly came up to him and/or his mother to share how he influenced them to turn their life around. Marquise left this world knowing he made it a better place. To know Marquise was to know that law enforcement ran through his blood. He may have been short in stature but that never held him back. He was never afraid and always willing to do what was needed to help his community and brothers in blue. As a son, father, friend, and professional, Marquise always went above and beyond for everyone in his life. While law enforcement may have been his first love, Marquise was also an amazing father. Marquise set the example early for his daughter on how a man should treat a woman. He would take her out on daddy-daughter dates and taught her about chivalry. Marquise was an avid reader, researcher, and music lover. Marquise loved nature and especially fishing. Marquise was a prophetic soul that loved meditation and spirituality. In 2008, Marquise became a Mason. Marquise was preceded in death by his father: Richard Grant; his grandfather: Robert Grant; his grandmother: Alice Grant; and his grandfather: Toby Woodard. Marquise leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his dear loving grandmother: Helen Woodard; his loving mother: Linda Woodard Grant; brother: Rasheed Grant; and children: Neriah and Levi Grant. Marquise also leaves to mourn a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and law enforcement family. Marquise has left all that knew him with a legacy full of strength, perseverance, spirituality, and love.
