Beautiful service. I met met Maurice when I firsat started working at NYU in ’03. When I found out we attended same high school and loved the Knicks that made it all the even better. He carried himself with tremendous dignity and every word about him today was true. We had a moment of silence for him before our meeting today and one of his former colleagues gave a great tribute to him and his impact at NYU earlier. He will be missed. May he Rest In Peace.
Maurice and I shared many moments by way of Morehouse College. We helped to plan and implement a program for first-year students that we affectionally titled “Love and Forgiveness.” We travelled together to a bi-annual conference sponsored by the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education at which time would always carve out some time to just be together; including slipping off to Ferguson for a moment of reflection while in St. Louis. We shared a number of other special experiences through the MLK Jr. Int’l Chapel; some of the best around the conference table, in my crowded office or standing just outside of the Dean’s Entrance. His energy and smile continue to generate fond memories. My deepest condolences are expressed to the family and friends–we will miss his physical presence but his spirit remains. May God’s grace, mercy and peace attend to you each of you and to all of you. Amen! Terry F. Walker Sr., Director of Chapel Relations
Carla and Jordan my prayers are with you always. You’re so very blessed to have had such a wonderful man in your life. Maurice had a nice life, but you and Jordan made it a wonderful life. Anyone can steer a ship, but it takes a leader to chart a course. Maurice was a dynamic leader and achieved much success along the way. Jordan your Dad is already proud of you, so just keep keeping on and I know you will do well. Carla you are one woman who can truly say that you experienced what it is to be loved by a good man. Your husband was the love of your life and I want you to always hold onto that. When your heart gets heavy, look to the sky, Maurice is smiling down on you. Jordan your father’s footsteps will follow you everyday and that will keep you pushing forward. Stay strong and know that God has his arms around both of you. With love, Carlette Jones.

Maurice was my freshman year roomate at Drew in 1980. I appreciated Maurice’s natural sense of acceptance. He had a flexible way of being that gave people he interacted with a sense of relief in being respected as they are.
Such a great life path to read about. I wish I reconnected to you earlier in our lives.
My condolences to family and all those he influenced and blessed.
