Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Michele Ann “Micki” Flaherty passed away on April 26, 2018. She was born in Chicago in 1934. An outstanding student, she received a scholarship to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she earned a degree in sociology. She then worked for the American Red Cross and earned a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University Chicago.
A devoted wife and mother and a cherished presence in the lives of her family and friends, she was generous, thoughtful, and kind. These qualities shone in her dedicated service to ministries at her church, where she was the Prayer Line coordinator and a caseworker, spiritual director, and Adopt-a-Family volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A modest and gentle spirit who shunned the spotlight, she was never without her buoyant good humor, a compassionate ear to lend, and a good book to read.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard Flaherty; their four children, Mary Clare Phillips (Russell), Mimi Elliott-Gower (Steve), Richard Flaherty, Jr., and Jeanne Weiland (Pete); and their 12 grandchildren, John, Matt, Mark, and Elizabeth Phillips; Jack, Katie, and Claire Elliott-Gower; and Patrick, Jacqueline, Madeline, Paul, and Luke Weiland.
A funeral Mass and inurnment will take place at the Catholic Church of St. Ann on Thursday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Unbound and sent to the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 4905 Roswell Rd., Marietta, GA 30062.
