Mr. Francis Joseph Domick

October 11, 2013

Mr. Francis Joseph Domick, age 86, of Marietta passed away October 11, 2013. He was born in Syracuse, NY, the youngest son of the late Joseph Domick and Mary Salbert Domick. He was drafted in the Army in 1945 and was proud to serve his country in Japan, at the end of World War II. After his discharge, he applied for and obtained an entry level position in the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. He attended evening classes and completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Strayer College. He often exclaimed that going to Washington was the best thing that ever happened to him. It was there that he started a new career and met his beloved wife, Bea. They were married in 1951 and celebrated 53 years together. He later applied for a position in the State Department and began his career with USAID as a Foreign Service Officer, with his first assignment to Belgrade, Yugoslavia in the early 1960's. His career in the Diplomatic Corp led to further assignments in Uganda, Kenya, and Vietnam where he and his family met many wonderful and life-long friends. He returned to Washington, DC as Director of Overseas, Operations/Administration. After retiring, he and Bea moved to Spring Hill, Florida and he became Treasurer of the Hernando Jazz Society. One of his passions was the music of the Big Band Era and the monthly Jazz Society gatherings enabled him to fully enjoy the music, with friends. He relocated to Marietta in 2011 and although only here for a short time, he made new friends and enjoyed time with his family. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Michael Riley of Marietta, GA as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 87 Lacy St., Marietta, GA 30060. Monsignor John Walsh will be the celebrant. In lieu of the flowers the family would suggest donations in Mr. Domick's memory to The Wounded Warrior Project.

  5. I joined the Hernando Jazz Society in 2007 and Frank soon took me under his wing. I visited Frank many times at his home here in Spring Hill and thanks to his kind and gentle tutelage I soon learned the ins and outs of producing the Jazz Society’s monthly newsletter which I still do. We all missed Frank when he moved away. I can only imagine that Frank is now in heaven with all the many great Jazz musicians he so very much loved through the years. Keep swinging Frank, we will all miss you!

  6. Warmest regards from all of your friends at the Hernando Jazz Society. We hope that you are enjoying plenty of big band jazz in your heavenly arena
