Nancy, was a compassionate, loving and warm person. She was beautiful inside and out. She had a beautiful smile with sparkling brown eyes. And she had a quick and witty sense of humor. Everyone knows that Nancy never met a stranger and had many friends for many years - some as long as high school, middle school and elementary school. She was a fixture in her neighborhood, especially in the summer at the community pool.
While a New Yorker by birth, her family moved to the Washington D.C. area where she attended Bethesda/Chevy Chase High School and then moved to Atlanta when she was 16, where she graduated from Northside High School. She moved back to Washington D.C. to attend college and studied interior design. There she met the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Richard. They moved back to Atlanta, where the entire extended family had settled, since Richard was in the army and stationed in North Carolina. A daughter, Linda, arrived the following year and five years later a son, David.
Nancy’s self-appointed nickname was “Grammy Nanny.” She adored her three grandchildren, Hannah (20), Shelby (16) and Zach (13) and several “adopted” grand kids from the neighborhood. She was also an avid animal lover from her beloved dogs, Coco, Jacques and Mishka, to her current cats, Delilah and Sampson, and instilled her love of animals in her children and grandchildren.
Professionally, Nancy worked as an Interior Decorator. She loved all design, but was known as the “wallpaper lady” for many years working at Wallpaper Atlanta and Myron Dwoskin’s. She branched out into blinds and draperies and retired from Marietta Drapery.
In retirement, Nancy enjoyed pursuing her many hobbies - Mahjong, playing canasta, water aerobics, reading, going for “Pho” for lunch with the girls, and travel. She loved 50’s music and Broadway show tunes and was always a devoted Elvis fan. Recently, she became a huge fan of the “Outlander” series of books and tv shows. She also loved travel, especially cruising. Some of her favorite destinations were the Florida and Georgia beaches, Hilton Head Island, Europe, and a trip to Israel last winter.

Nancy was the best friend a person could be lucky enough to have. No matter what was going on in her life, she was always more concerned for everyone else. Even when she was so sick, she was still more concerned about her family and her friend’s well being. Nancy never put herself first……her family and her friends were her life. Of course, she also loved, and played, a terrific game of Mah Jongg! I keep hearing her say to me…….“Hey Jan, it’s Nan”…….when ever she left a message for me. I hear her now, saying that to me, in that beautiful voice of hers,……”Hey Jan, it’s Nan”…….I will treasure that memory, and the sound of her voice, forever. And I now say to her……..”Hey Nan, it’s Jan……..the angels in heaven just got the most special angel……..and I know you will be teaching all of them to play Mah Jongg!”
I know that exact sound but it was “Hey Nan, it’s Nan”.
We met Nancy Gerber and Dick on a Mediterranean adventure. The cruise where we went to Eqypt during their civil war and Israel where their tour bus almost backed over a cliff in Bethlehem. Each night we would get together for cocktails and dinner. Oh the laughs and the stories…..
We formed a friendship that has lasted over 10 years. Nancy a true friend worked hard to keep in touch. Often a text or a short msg let me know she was thinking of us here in Canada. Three or four different years Nan and Dick would come and stay with us in Florida during the month of February where she enthusiastically introduced me to her Outlander world. Quickly i to became an Outlander addict and we would often text our thoughts on the story line.
Our love and thoughts go out to Dick, the kids and grandkids. How proudly and deeply she spoke of them.
Nancy, I know you have found your way “through the stones”. fois shìorraidh gun robh aig a h-anam (rest her soul in peace) (Gaelic for those non Outlanders)
love ya and gone to soon

Nancy would call me and say I feel like Pho today ! We would hop in our cars and meet at Pho and Com and enjoy a big bowl of soup together! She also loved her New York roll from Kuroshio, a restaurant that we and some other friends would frequent often. She loved playing Mah Jongg, we often played a game or two at the restaurant. We enjoyed spending time together. She knew that I couldn’t get Outlander on my tv so she always had me come over to her house to watch together.
I will miss everything about her! I love you Nancy😘🥰😍
Besides having Nancy as a wonderful friend, she was my Sushi buddy! I hadn’t had Sushi since she passed, until two weeks ago. I sat there thinking of how much fun we had together. I miss you Nancy, so much! I still can’t believe that you are gone! 😘
