Oscar Lopez

May 3, 1938 ~ June 25, 2026

Born in: Mazatenango, Guatemala
Resided in: Marietta, Georgia

Oscar Alexander Lopez, age 48, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on June 9th, 2026. He was born June 21, 1977 in El Salvador. Oscar was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Javier Lopez. He is survived by his mother, Maria De Carmen Portillo, his two sons, Kevin and Ethan Lopez, his brothers and sisters, and a host of extended family members, all of whom carry his memory forward.

Born in El Salvador, Oscar later moved to Los Angeles, California, before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, while raising his two sons. For the past several years, Oscar experienced homelessness while struggling with alcohol addiction. Despite these challenges, those who encountered him often remember his kindness, humility, and gratitude for even the smallest gestures. He remained a gentle presence in the lives of many who crossed his path.

Oscar will continue to live on in his sons’ memories and in the moments they shared through their love of video games, listening to music, loving animals, and his unforgettable goofy sense of humor. He never wanted to be tied down to one location and was always on adventures, whether that was helping people with home projects, work, or tagging along for road trips. Oscar had a gift for storytelling and genuine connection. He could spend hours sharing stories, listening to others, and making everyone he met feel like a friend.

His life reflects the complexity of human struggle and the enduring capacity for compassion, even in difficult circumstances. He will be remembered by his family and those who knew him with both love and sorrow, leaving behind a life marked by hardship but also deep humanity.

A memorial service to honor Oscar’s life will be held on Jul 3rd, 2026 at 6pm at Deer Lick Park, 2105 Mack Rd, Douglasville, GA. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share in remembering his life. One of Oscar’s final wishes was to be laid to rest in California alongside his father, so a second memorial service will be held for family and friends in Los Angeles, California, date to be determined.
