Rebecca Ann Duncan, age 61 of Rome, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Rebecca was born on August 17, 1954 in Arkansas, the daughter of Charles Duncan and Thelma Cater.
Family, friends and spreading joy into the lives she touched were Rebecca's passions. She was a wonderfully talented floral designer and loved using her artistic gifts to bring happiness and beauty to the lives of others. Rebecca was vibrant and full of life with a magnetic, one-of-a-kind personality that drew many people to her. She had an unmatched ability to brighten the days of those she encountered just with a few simple words and her smile. That smile was contagious and could light an entire room. She loved spending time with those she loved, being outdoors, gardening, laughing and sharing her unique sense of humor and personality with those around her. Rebecca was and will continue to be so loved.
Rebecca is survived by her daughters, Courtney and her husband Antonio Veal, Haleigh and her husband Adam Coleman; brothers, Bruce Duncan and Bill Duncan; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
A portion of Rebecca's arrangements are private. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 2pm to 5pm at Southern Cremations and Funerals. The family wishes to thank all of those who loved Rebecca so dearly and those who cared for her and assisted her family during her battle with cancer.
As Rebecca loved flowers, they are gladly accepted. Alternatively, donations may be made to the Wellstar Foundation - the Cancer Campaign.

‘I am so shocked and saddened by Rebecca’s passing. I feel so blessed to have known her. She was sunshine always with such a wonderful personality! She was dear to our garden club in Rome (Camellia). She told us when she retired in 6 months she was going to join our club. We were all so excited. Rebecca was always so helpful at work anytime you needed advice or a beautiful wreath or floral arrangement. She was so talented and full of happiness and joy. So beautiful inside and out! I will miss her beautiful smile and spirit. My prayers are with you all and I am so very sorry for you loss.’
‘She was indeed a light of hope when going thru the trials of life, a beacon of inspiration, a unique loving lady…. I enjoyed working with her in Rome. Rebecca, I enjoyed knowing you so, so much… I know heaven is rejoicing an angel came home….you were a Queen, in this world.’
‘I thank GOD for the time that I was Blessed to share with Rebecca. The friendship we shared was truly one of a kind. People like her only come around once in a lifetime. I don’t use the term friend lightly. Genuine friends are rare and should be considered family. I will truly miss my Sweet, Dear, friend…. however I rejoice because I didn’t lose her, I have gained an Angel and that in itself is the best gift that I could ever receive this time of the year. ” How does it feel to have wings?” Is what I so want to ask her right now! As for her daughters, you two were her UNIVERSE!!!!! That kind of love is timeless and it will never end.’
‘I’m thinking of the family and friends during this time. We’ve all shared a lot of wonderful memories and times with Rebecca. She was truly God sent, everyone she came in contact with left with a smile on their face. She had the most beautiful smile that could light up a room, as well as the most contagious laugh. She’s brought so much joy and happiness to me. All of the morning sunrises we shared, with two geese flying over. Her looking over telling me that’s us side by side going through life.’
‘Courtney,
‘You know I loved her and that I will miss her quirky ways. We had many good talks.’
‘Ms. Rebecca was truly one of a kind. She had such an unwavering ability to brighten the darkest days for me… well, she could do that for anyone! Her beautiful smile alone was enough to breathe life into the saddest soul. I worked with Ms. Rebecca at Michaels for two years and I always felt so out of place while I worked there because I’ve never been a real crafty person but Ms. Rebecca always made me feel like I belonged. I regret not stopping by to see her more often once I quit Michaels. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered… Heaven truly has gained another Angel. I am blessed and honored to have known her and I thank GOD for placing such an amazing person in my path. Fly high, beautiful angel!
‘I met Rebecca when she spoke at our garden club this fall. I loved her wit and bubbly personality! She helped me make my first elf wreath for my 2 year old granddaughter. She had a genuine spirit and we were excited that she wanted to join our group when she retired. Then we heard that she was ill and we were saddened to hear that she passed. I hope her family is filled with sweet memories during this difficult time. I was thankful to have known her for a short time.’
‘Girls, I am sad to hear of your mother’s passing, deepest sympathies to you. Becky was a uniquely talented and beautiful woman and I am glad I experienced her even if only a short season in life on Trail Road. I fully regret not staying in touch.’
‘I met Rebecca 7 years ago and hired her at Michaels, she could light up a room with her smile and loved working with flowers! She never met a stranger. Rest in peace Rebecca enjoy your wings and look over your daughters from above.’
‘My condolences
As you grief the loss of your dear Rebecca, may the memories that mean the most to you live close to your heart along with “God promise to wipe away the tears from your eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more the former things have passed away.”‘
‘I am so sorry for your loss. It was shocking to hear of Rebecca’s illness and passing. Our acquaintance/friendship was all to short but I loved her just the same. Her beautiful smile, witty sense of humor is what I will always remember of her. She will be dearly missed. May God be with and give each one of her friends and family peace and comfort.’
