Richard Scott Lay

Richard Scott Lay, 93, of Kennesaw, GA passed away June 29, 2026. He was born in Atlanta (Fulton County) Georgia on May 20, 1933. He attended Georgia State University and was retired from the United States Navy in 1988, having served a total of 36 Active and Reserve. Mr. Lay was affiliated with Life Insurance Company of Georgia (later ING North America and now VOYA) for 47 years and retired in 1998.

Mr. Lay was preceded in death by his parents Mildred (Barham) Simpson and Scott Lay, Jr. and Stepfather, Robert Edward Simpson.

He is survived by wife Belle Faulkner, daughter Lauren Udell, (Tom). Mother of Lauren Betty B. Lay. Sons Steven Faulkner (Shelli) and Michael Faulkner. Grandsons Layne, Landon (Nikki), Larson, Grayson, and Brian. Granddaughter Katherine Lopez (Sebastian), Great Granddaughters Amelia Jane and Claire Stevie, Great Grandson Luke. Adopted Daughter Susan Hunter, (Mike), Son Steven (Cari), Children Emma Reese, Boone and Nellie Grace. Sisters-In-Law Janice Edwards, Penny Dodson (Raymond) and Rachel Noles. Niece Jayne Wiley who was his caregiver and who Richard adored. Many other Nieces and Nephews and his Golf friends.

Richard will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, great father, grandfather, great grandfather to all of these children. He loved playing Golf and serving our Country proudly in the United States Navy.

The Memorial Service for Mr. Lay will be held at the Cheatham Hill Funeral Home Columbarium, Marietta, GA on Tuesday, July 7th
