Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Rosetta “Cynthia” Calhoun’s life began on January 5, 1948 in Birmingham AL. She was the 1st (Matriarch) of ten children born to the late William and Lucinda Bell.
Cynthia confessed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church West End in Birmingham, AL. Before joining Faith Deliverance Kingdom Now in Smyrna, GA, under the Ministry of Apostle T.C. Maxwell, she was and was a member of various churches throughout Birmingham AL, Seattle WA, Portland, OR and the greater Atlanta, GA area. She was where she faithfully served as an Usher, and assisted with Sunday School classes.
She attended Eureka Elementary and A.H. Parker High School, and while working as a housekeeper, at various businesses performing office administrative assignments.
After graduating high school she met and married George Calhoun in December 1968 and once married they moved to Portland, OR. and from this union two children were born. It was her move to the Pacific Northwest that inspired her seven of siblings to follow. She called Portland and Seattle “Home” for over 30-years. She furthered her education by receiving an Accounting degree at Mount Hood Community College in Portland, OR, and worked at a several firms until later deciding to be a housewife and proud mother of two children. While in Seattle, she was one of 6 employees at the time working for a “start up” company called “Amazon” in 1996. She told us stories of how she thought it was funny that Jeff Bezos would tell them he was going to be rich, while at the time he was only selling and shipping books out of the basement of his home where they worked. In her retirement years, she passionately worked as a Caregiver for the elderly.
Cynthia loved her family and friends unconditionally and would do anything for them, before doing for herself. She would literally give you the shoes off of her feet. She loved God, she loved blessing people with a gift, she loved getting dressed up in her ‘Sunday’s Best’, she loved music, loved dancing, loved traveling, loved cooking, and most of all she loved connecting (talking 😁) with those she loved!!!
On August 19, 2020, Cynthia transitioned to be with God the Almighty and to reconnect with her mother and father on the date of their wedding anniversary, the rest of her siblings, family and friends again! Knowing that we should celebrate!!!!
Rosetta Cynthia Calhoun leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted son, George Gabriel Calhoun of Atlanta GA; daughter, Ronnetta Calhoun of Charlotte, NC; grandson; Sol Quintanilla of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Deborah Osborne and Angela (Paul) Nowell of Seattle, WA; brother, Kelvin (Martrece) Bell of B’ham, AL; brothers-in-law Phil Brown of Hampton, GA, Timothy Harris B’ham, AL and Major “Jojo” Watkins, sister-in-law, Pearl Bell; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. My husband, Darnell, and I send our deepest condolences and prayers of comfort to Cynthia’s family. I’ve known Cynthia every since my childhood when we lived in the small neighborhood of Eureka, in Birmingham. When she moved to Portland she was like a sister to me because of my mom, who loved her and welcomed her to the city. Cynthia and I continued to have many phone conversations when she moved back down south. I will miss her laughter, love and kindness. May she rest in paradise with our Lord and all of her love ones who went before her. Love and peace , Joyce (Diane) Lowery

There has not been a point in my life that my aunt Cynthia was not there. Last year, when she was legally blind, she rode the bus from Georgia to North Carolina to spend time with us. The stories that she told…we would sit up late night into the early morning hours listening to her words of wisdom. Lord knows she could tell a story. I will miss you.
To God Be The Glory for the great memories I shared with Cynthia. She invited me to the Babe Mason Concert at her community. I especially enjoyed the concert but I enjoyed my last fellowship with her more than anything else. God Has Spoken. Let The Church Say Amen. Love you. Rest well. Fredonia Jones AKA Freda.
Ms.C you will always be a significant part of our life, you cared for my son Jaxon his first year of life! Being able to have Jaxon in a home setting with you, giving him all the love and attention he needed, plus family feud with Steve Harvey, was a blessing for are family. The best part is that Jaxon was able to see you as he grew older and will always know that Ms. Cynthia took care of him. The Glenn family is sending prayer to the family, you will always be remebered, we love you!
