Mrs. Ruby Jewel Power, age 97, born on August 30, 1929, in Tallassee, Alabama, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ruby was a woman of deep faith and devotion to God. A true student of the Word, she read her Bible through many times, finding strength, wisdom, and comfort within its pages throughout her life. Every Sunday, she looked forward to tuning in and watching Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, keeping close to the gospel message that meant so much to her. She attended Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Hiram, GA and First Baptist Boaz in Boaz, Alabama. She could be a stern and formidable woman, but her steadfast spiritual foundation and the life she built will remain a lasting part of her family’s history.
A dedicated wife, Ruby stood by her husband’s side through every season. She helped him navigate life’s challenges with grace and strength and did whatever necessary to support her family. Together, they built a wonderful life, including constructing their home in Paulding County with the help of their family and friends. Their homestead was full of life, complete with beloved animals. Most notably, Betsy, the cow and Rocky, the dog.
Ruby was widely known as an extraordinary cook. Everyone in the family cherished her kitchen, where she always served up love on a plate. Her famous green beans and fried chicken reigning as absolute family favorites. There was never a shortage of sweets in her home, as she always kept an abundance of desserts on hand. She was also an avid canner who put up foods and made countless jars of jams and jellies, including her signature muscadine jelly. Even when they lived in a tiny camper trailer during the construction of their home, Ruby’s heart for hospitality shone brightly as she continually cooked warm, hearty meals for everyone. For a time, Ruby worked in an elementary school cafeteria, and also became known for her remarkable baking skills by making biscuits for breakfast establishments in Powder Springs and Hiram, Georgia. Her gift for cooking was appreciated by all who knew her
Gifted with her hands, Ruby spent the early years of her marriage working as a seamstress. She kept her love of sewing throughout her life and completed many quilts. Later on, she owned and operated a ceramic shop where she poured, painted, and sold beautiful pottery. In her later years, she discovered a new creative joy in “painting” which is what she lovingly called her coloring books and markers. She completed hundreds of pages, turning vibrant colors into a source of daily happiness.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Thomas Power, and her cherished daughter, Dyian Power Seagraves.
She is survived by her loving son, Thomas “Larry” Power, and daughter-in-law, Debra Dent Power; and her son-in-law, Jerry T. Seagraves.
