Samantha Nesmith

October 13, 1971 ~ January 17, 2021

The Lord saw that Samantha had fought a good fight and it was time to call her home. Samantha M. Nesmith was born on October 13, 1971 to Jushaway Nesmith and the late Olivia A. Nesmith in Bronx, New York, and was the youngest of three children. She departed this life peacefully Sunday January 17, 2021, at Piedmont Atlanta hospital. Samantha accepted Christ at an early age at Saint Johns Baptist Church, in Harlem New York. After graduating from Julia Richman High School, Samantha went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in communication from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY. Samantha then began an internship with Fox Corporation, before moving on to Enterprise Rental Car. She then worked at AT&T in New York before moving with the company to Sacramento, CA for two short months. She than received a call from U.S. Immigrations where she started her life long career as an Immigration Officer. Her career took her from U.S. Immigration to the Department of Homeland Security, where she worked at John F. Kennedy International Airport Queens, New York, the country of Bermuda, and then onto Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Atlanta, GA. She even had a short tour in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Her career expanded 22 successful years between both agencies. Samantha lived a full and adventurous life. At only the young tinder age of eleven, she received the Congressional Metal of Merit from the House of Representative of the 19th District of New York. She was truly a leader and go getter from early on in life. She loved sports, and her favorite football team was the Seattle Seahawks. She spent a lot of time traveling the world experiencing places such as Dubai, South Africa, France, Greece and Croatia, to name a few. She was a lover of good music, a good time and was always the life of the party. She possessed a beautiful singing voice as only a few people knew. Samantha’s energy was felt by everyone she encountered. Her smile and laugh left an impression on many hearts. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving father, Jushaway Nesmith Sr. of Dillwyn, VA; brothers, Larry Nesmith (Constance) of Columbus, GA; Jushaway Nesmith Jr. of Bronx, NY; three Godchildren; Amaiah “The Sumo Kells” of Bronx, NY; Jaedan Jones of Richmond, VA; Dominic Nesmith of Raleigh, NC; uncles, Herman Eldridge Sr., and Emanuel Eldridge of Arvonia, VA; Clarence Eldridge (Eunice) of Gladstone, VA; Mark Nesmith (Sharon) of Blackwood, NJ; aunt, Pearl Bullue of Williams Town, NJ; Fannie Nesmith of Nesmith, SC; Virginia Nesmith of Fort Myers, FL; nieces, Ashlee Nesmith-Harris (Kelvin) of Winder, GA; Jushlynn “Richter” Nesmith of Bronx, NY; Special cousins, Cynthia Jones of Richmond, VA; Karen Carey of Bronx, NY; special friend, Angelica Rosa Diller of Queens NY; and a host of cousins, friends and co-workers.

  1. Having to write this makes it feel too real. I wish we were not in this situation right now, but I leave my trust and faith with God. Aunt Samantha I just want to say I am going to miss you so much. I’m going to miss our conversations about the questionable choices I’ve made lol. She never judged me and I will always love her for that. I knew every time I talked to her I was going to leave the conversation with a smile on my face. I am going to miss you being one of the true constants in my moms life. You meant so much to her and my family. I will always remember every trip you took to come see us in Richmond. I am so sad we never got to go to Carnival together, I know it would have been a lot of fun. I don’t want to stop writing because I don’t want to let go of you. I know you are in a much better place. I will never forget you and thank you for making my world so much brighter. I am sad you have to take that light with but I know there are people waiting for you at the gates to spread your light with. This isn’t goodbye but a see you later because it will see you later Aunt Samantha. I Love You Always and Forever, Autumn

  2. Sad to hear about my former colleague from JFK. I fondly remember Samantha’s bright smile and sense of humor during the busiest travel seasons. She was definitely a good human being. May she Rest in Power. Condolences to the Nesmith family.
