Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Sandy Lee Smith, age 51, formerly of Marietta, GA, went to her heavenly home the morning of April 11th, 2021. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 17th, 2021 from 10 am to 11 am with a service to follow at 11 am at the Macland Road Church of Christ. The service will be officiated by Justin Moore.
Born to Freddy Baggett and Gayle Burns, Sandy grew up in the Smyrna, GA area. She graduated from Campbell High School and later received a BS from Mercer University. As she grew up and started a family, she realized her passion in life was caring for children. Lovingly known as Mrs. Sandy, she started an in-home daycare after realizing she wanted to be home to take of her children and provide that same care to other working parents. As her children grew up and went to college, her care and love for children never stopped. She later worked as a school bus driver and loved the stories all those children told.
Outside of her career, she loved listening to and reading stories and could sit all day to talk and listen to the lives of other people. There was never a stranger that she met, whether that was at the grocery store, the bank, or even just walking down the street. Her contagious laugh and bubbly personality were felt by everyone she met. Sandy loved a trip to the lake or the beach. Any getaway near the water brought her so much joy. She loved her family, friends, and many dogs. She leaves a legacy of care and a passion for making sure the needs of everyone are met and will be remembered by the love she showed to everyone.
She is survived by her husband, David Christopher Smith, Sr. (51) of Marietta, GA; her daughter, Taylor Morgan Smith (28) of Smyrna, GA; and her son David Christopher Smith, Jr. (24) of Oxford, MS.
The family would like to express our thanks to the medical professionals of Wellstar Cobb Hospital and Wellstar Tranquility Hospice, the Burnt Hickory Church of Christ family, the Macland Road Church of Christ family, the staff at Southern Cremations and Funerals, and all the family and friends for their thoughts, prayers, and care they have given during this time.

Sandy was my first friend in life. Some of my first memories were of her coming up the street to play under the carport at my house. In recent years we kept up with each other through Facebook.
