Sharon Freeman Reid

We gather today to celebrate the life of Sharon Freeman Reid, who was born to John and Annie Mae Freeman on June 20, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York, and went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2026.
Sharon was a beacon of love, faith, and strength. She earned her degree from Adelphi University and devoted her life to serving others. A woman of unwavering faith, she guided her sons, Brandon and Damon Reid, into a deeper relationship with God.
Throughout her life, Sharon found great joy in serving the communities she loved. She worked as an educator, telecommunications manager, beautician, and mentor with the Boys & Girls Club of America for many years, serving alongside her devoted husband, Jay Michael Reid. Whether through teaching, encouraging, or simply listening, Sharon had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. The impact she and her husband had on their community continues to be felt to this day.
She was especially a role model for the young women at the Boys & Girls Club, teaching them the importance of self-care and providing guidance as they transitioned into womanhood. On any given weekend, the Reid household was open to the childhood friends of Damon and Brandon. They were treated as extended family and were always welcomed with open arms and home-cooked meals prepared with love.
Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and music. She often invited coworkers and friends over for fellowship, creating an atmosphere of joy and hospitality. She especially enjoyed collecting and listening to vinyl records, and her passion for cooking knew no bounds. She could prepare just about anything with love and was always eager to learn how to cook a new dish at a moment’s notice. Sharon also generously volunteered her time at her local senior community center in the Bronx, New York, where she touched countless lives through her kindness, compassion, and servant’s heart.
Sharon leaves behind her beloved sons, Brandon and Damon Reid; her daughter-in-law, Lakia Reid; her cherished granddaughter, Savannah Reid; her loving sister, Regina Bussey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
On behalf of Brandon and Damon, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who loved, supported, and prayed for our mother throughout her life. She was a guiding light to so many, and her legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to flourish in our hearts for generations to come.

Rest in peace my beautiful Sister-in law! I’ll never forget the kindness you always showed me whenever I visited you and my brother Jay, whether it was in Myrtle Beach, SC or the home in Florida. My brother loved you very much. You both did a great job in raising my Nephews Damon and Brandon. To my Nephews, you both made your parents proud.
