Sharon Marie Sheffield

November 4, 1949 ~ February 16, 2018

The birth of Sharon Marie Sheffield brought joy to the small town of Whitman, West Virginia on November 4, 1949. Sharon was born in the humble home of the late Bishop John and Mother Pauline Sheffield. Sharon would eventually become the first of twelve children born to the blessed union. As the first born, Sharon led her siblings in many ways. When the family moved to Michigan, Sharon set the example for her siblings in school. While attending school first in Belleville and later in Detroit, Sharon was a highly distinguished scholar at the elementary, junior high and high school level, ultimately graduating from Detroit's Eastern High School. Her siblings fondly remember how she won honor after honor and provided the example future teachers would expect them all to live up to. She also led her siblings to Church as from an early age she was an active disciple of Christ as a choir member, Sunday school helper and pageant planner. She is best remembered as the leading voice of the family. From a young age, Sharon was never shy about expressing her opinion and always spoke with the best interest of the family in mind. Despite the many medical challenges of her adult years, Sharon lived a fulfilling life. She mastered secretarial skills and went on to employment in the office, retail and restaurant sectors. She traveled near and far, attending family reunions from Texas to Georgia to Pennsylvania. She loved to shop and established a network of friends and fellow bargain hunters that extended from Detroit to Georgia. But most importantly, she became mother to five wonderful children and grandmother to four, each of whom she loved beyond measure. As she left this world for a better one on February 16, 2018, she left many fond memories and a legacy of love, laughter, family and friends. To mourn her passing and celebrate her life, she leaves her five children, Niles, Alexander, Alicia, Kevin and Kyle. Her four grandchildren, Ta’Nia, Nedeah, Zion, and Dominic. Remembering their big sister and mourning her departure are her siblings Johnny (Lorraine), Roderick (Lynn), Darrell, Edmund, Paul, Marcus (Alyce), Eric (Remonda), Vincent (Michelle), Everett and Natalie (Michael). Her parents Bishop John Sheffield and Mother Pauline Sheffield, and brother Robert preceded her in death. Also celebrating her legacy are her aunts and uncles, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and life-long friends. Her presence may be gone, but the light of her spirit will never be extinguished.
