Steven Joseph DeMarco

October 11, 1955 ~ April 17, 2020

The family of Steven Joseph DeMarco is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 17th, 2020. He was 64 years old. He leaves behind many that will miss him and cherish the memories they have of him. Steve was born on October 11th, 1955 to Jennie and Vince DeMarco in Mountain Home, Idaho. His family relocated to Illinois after Vince got out of the Air Force. Steve grew up in and around Lombard, Illinois. He was the oldest of 5 children. As a boy, Steve loved hearing stories from his Grandma Helen about Al Capone and loved telling tales about his family’s ties to the mob and wanted to be a gangster when he grew up. Steve loved to build things and once, before he could drive a car, he made a twin-engine go-kart. He would do burnouts and race around his neighborhood on it. He attended Glenbard East High School, and later received his GED. Steve had many relationships, but the woman he loved most was Sandra. They met as neighbors after his Great Dane, King, tried to eat her cat, Space Kitty. They fell deeply in love and married. Sadly, they lost their first son, Carmen, in childbirth. They had 2 more boys together, Steve and Adam. He was an extremely proud father, and he was so excited to become a dad that he would let nothing keep him out of the delivery room. His sons, and family in general, meant the world to him. As sometimes happens in life, Steve and Sandra had to go their separate ways. After Steve and Sandra separated, they remained friends. He always thought of her as the “one that got away”. Steve loved his boys dearly and did the best he could for them after the family split. Steve’s siblings as well as his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren couldn’t help but gravitate to his sweet, loving, and genuine personality. He had a silly nickname for everyone and loved to sing goofy songs he improvised about his favorite people and animals to them. Steve worked in injection molding during his early career. He started in the field in 1979. He moved up at a few different companies to be a supervisor. He was great at his job, hard-working, knowledgeable, and was very demanding as supervisor. He earned the nickname “El Diablo” from some of his employees due to his fiery personality. He like the name so much he later got a tattoo with the moniker and loved to tell the story behind it. Steve moved around a bit in Illinois, went to Wisconsin shortly, and finally moved to Georgia. There he had some odd jobs before meeting his best friend Nick Stevens. He moved in with Nick and ran a crew for him for many years. They had a great time working together, and even more fun hanging out outside of work. When Steve’s boys were in high school they would stay with Steve and Nick for the summers. He loved spending time with them and getting to teach them as much as he could. Steve had a great work ethic and made sure to instill that in his boys. Steve always had a passion for speed. He loved to build and race cars and motorcycles. He built many cars and motorcycles over the years. One of the cars he built and sold later became a Pro Stock car that was raced at Great Lakes Dragway every weekend by a professional driver. He loved attending races and followed the NHRA and Nascar events. He once went for a ride in a Nascar Stock Car at Atlanta Motor Speedway with his friend Nicky. Steve had many talents, and two of them were playing guitar and making models. He also loved being around animals, horses and dogs in particular. He loved to sing silly songs to his dogs and had his own special way of communicating with them. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Helen and Frank, Busha (Grandma), his sons Carmen and Adam DeMarco, and many wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his son Steven (Jessica) DeMarco II, sisters Joy DeMarco, Tina Divito, Lori Wieszchowski (Nick Stevens), brother Jeffrey (Sally) DeMarco, and his grandchildren Nicolette, Aiden, and Lincoln DeMarco, as well as many awesome nieces and nephews. Guestbook

  1. Steve was a great guy and would go to the ends of the Earth for his family and friends. He was fun loving and always had a funny story to tell. As much as he loved car racing I can vouch that YES he did meet Paul Newman at Daytona car races when he was in his 20’s. Eva S.

  2. Dear Steve, You were the best big brother in my book. You were always so honest and just fun to hang out with. You had such a tough exterior but were a cream puff inside. So many people admired you and your mean but funny comments. You influenced more people than you will ever know….I love you so much and can’t wait to see you again one day on the other side…..Your little Sister Lori
