Steven Ronald Owen

August 11, 1944 ~ October 28, 2020

On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, Steve (Papa) Owen, a loving, cherished and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, went to meet our Heavenly Father at the age of 76. Steve passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and three daughters. He was born in Dallas, GA on August 11, 1944 to Emmett and Evelyn (Ragsdale) Owen, one of nine children. On January 10, 1964 Steve married the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Carolyn Virginia Owen and together they raised three daughters, Tracy, Susie, and Stephanie. Steve retired from Georgia Power after many years of service. He was known by his family and friends as someone who could fix just about anything and was always ready to lend a helping hand with projects. He was an incredible listener, mentor, teacher, friend, Daddy, and Papa. Steve had a contagious zest for life, which he lived to the fullest and encouraged everyone around him to do the same. More importantly, he put his family first above all else in his life. There was never a question of his unsurpassed love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will always be deeply admired and forever embedded in the hearts of those closest to him. In his own words: " I have lived a great life! I married the woman that I fell in love with from the very first day, I laid eyes on her. She's beautiful inside and out. My girls and their families have always been my love and life. Grandkids are great! You could say I grew up with them. We laughed a lot! Bicycles, ball, tennis, golf, camping, beach paddle ball to driving cars. Yep, I was there for it all. No amount of money can replace those memories. I'm a blessed man." Steve is preceded in death by his father, Emmett, mother, Evelyn, and three brothers Emmett Lee, Cefus, and Robert. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Owen of Hiram, GA; daughters- Tracy (Trent) Wamp of Chattanooga, TN, Susie (Chad) Mitchell of Hiram, GA, and Stephanie (Steve) Rakestraw of Dallas, GA; brothers Charles (Virginia) Owen of Sedro Wolley, Washington; brother William “Bill” Owen of Dallas, GA; sisters, Doris Layton of Rome, GA, Joyce Robbins of Douglasville, GA, and Linda (Tony) Martin of Hiram; sister-in-law, Pat Owen of Snellville, GA; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Steve’s final wishes were to be cremated with a small private gathering of his wife, daughters and their families.
