Themba James Msimanga

July 21, 2003 ~ May 24, 2021

Thembinkosi James Msimanga Shaw, age 17 years, 10 months, passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2021, in Marietta, GA. He would have turned 18 years on July 21st. Thembinkosi is survived by his mother, Nontandoyenkosi Msimanga, of Durban, Natal South Africa: his brothers Zephaniah Msimanga and Bhekinkosi Msimanga, his grandparents, Drs Huggins and Ntombiyomusa, Siphiwindoda Msimaga, and his aunt Dr. Nokuthula Msimanga with her two daughters Raquel and Mariah Majwabu. Thembinkosi is preceded in death by his great grandmother, Mrs. Emily Msimanga (nee Mahlangu) of Filabusi, Zimbabwe, who passed on May 13, 2021, at 100 years and 3 months. Themba was born on July 21, 2003 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA, to parents Nontandoyenkosi Msimanga and Tony Shaw. The tragic car accident that occurred June 2nd 2006 was by far the most altering, life changing event for the Msimanga family. By far, Thembinkosi’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) diagnosis which led to the onset of seizures left the family with many questions that medical doctors did not have answers to. Stepping out on faith, Thembinkosi prevailed and let his light shine brightly. Throughout his hard journey to recovery, he showed us, taught us, and exemplified courage, strength, determination, perseverance, hard work, love, & patience. He continued his journey for 15 years. Inspite of the odds, as a special need student, Thembinkosi graduated from Labelle Elementary School and Smitha Middle School. He was currently attending South Cobb High School. Themba was a charismatic young man whose laughter was infectious and showed affection and love for everyone he met with lots of hugs and big kisses. He loved music of all genres and expressed it with yelling and singing along. He enjoyed watching court shows with his mother and WWE with his GOGO (grandmother, Ntombiyomusa Msimanga). He was destined to run for political office one day as his favorite phrase was “People First!,” inspired by his favorite show People’s Court. He loved emulating and imitating his MKHULU (grandfather, Huggins Msimanga). He definitely looked up to his Mkhulu. He loved company because you would not pass by without experiencing his strong grab, like to say, “stay with me”. His best friend, his brother, Zephaniah Msimanga were inseparable. Auntie Nokuthula Msimanga and Uncle Siphiwindoda Msimanga loved hanging out and spoiling their nephew. Today, we are here to lay this amazing young man to rest and to be at peace. He is our sweet angel, and his beautiful soul will surely be missed. Thembinkosi – “Hope has been given to us from God

  4. Dearest Nomsa, I never thought that one day I will be sending you a note on this matter about your deep loss. I can’t even imagine your deep pain and what the whole family is going through right now. While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. The loss of your son who has left us at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses for which there is so painful a reminder of what might have been. As a family, we offer our sincere condolence and deepest sympathy on your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers and the comfort in knowing that your loss is felt by many, help you through this difficult time. I ask for God’s blessings on you and your wonderful family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that his was a life well-lived. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Thinking of you with comfort and love, from South Africa. PONDA, DUKU, ORERATILE & OBAKENG.
