In Loving Memory of Valchandra Latrice
Lewis

October 10, 1977 – October 18, 2026

Valchandra Latrice Lewis was born on October 10, 1977, to Earl B. Lewis, Sr. and Wilnoreen
Fuller Lewis.

Val spent her early years in Washington State, lived briefly in Hawaii, and later moved with her
family to Stone Mountain, Georgia. She graduated from Redan High School in 1995 and
continued her education at the University of Georgia, where she earned her bachelor’s degree
in Psychology on August 10, 2002.

In 2012, Val was baptized at Berean Bible Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, publicly
professing her faith in Jesus Christ.

On October 27, 2002, Val began what would become a remarkable career with the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Atlanta, Georgia. In her first role with TSA, Val
served as a Transportation Security Screener. Through her dedication, consistency, and
exceptional work ethic, she steadily advanced through the ranks, becoming a Master Behavior
Detection Officer in November 2006. Her career eventually took her to Virginia, where she
served as an Expert Behavior Detection Officer before joining TSA headquarters in Arlington as
a Program Analyst in June 2013. On January 16, 2022, Val began a new chapter in Washington
State as Deputy Assistant Federal Security Director, a position she held until her passing.
Val took her responsibilities seriously and worked diligently, earning the respect of those around
her through her integrity, leadership, and genuine concern for others. She was not only
committed to doing her job well but also to encouraging, mentoring, and supporting her
colleagues. During her years working in Atlanta, Val was known not only for her strong work
ethic but also for her baking. Around the holidays, her coworkers could look forward to
purchasing her homemade cakes and pies—a delicious reminder that Val had talents beyond
her professional responsibilities.

While Val was incredibly dedicated to her career, there was so much more to her than her work.
She was responsible, thoughtful, generous, and full of joy. She had an unmistakable laugh—one
that those who knew her could recognize anywhere—and a way of bringing warmth and
happiness to those around her.

Val thoroughly enjoyed going to the movies. Anyone who ever watched a movie with her
probably remembers one of her little habits: whenever words appeared on the screen, Val would
read them aloud! It was simply one of those things that made Val, Val. She was also
enthusiastic about dining out, discovering new restaurants, and sampling different foods.
Whether it was a movie, a delicious meal, or an afternoon spent together, she appreciated the
simple pleasures of sharing experiences with family and friends.

Travel was another of Val’s great passions. She delighted in visiting new places, experiencing
different cultures, and seeing the world beyond what was familiar. Although the demands of life
and work had limited her opportunities to travel in recent years, her adventurous spirit remained.
Whenever she had the chance to get away, she especially treasured visiting family and friends,
making memories, and reconnecting with those closest to her.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful things about Val was her sincere concern for others. She
genuinely wanted to see the people around her blessed and would do whatever she could to
help someone in need. One of the ways she expressed her love was through books. She
delighted in buying books for others, and her nieces and nephews were certainly the recipients
of many over the years. Whether family, friend, or coworker, Val had a giving heart and a
willingness to offer her time and support. Her family held a special place in her heart, and the
care she showed to those around her will remain one of the most treasured parts of her
memory.

We will remember Val for her beautiful smile, that unmistakable laugh, her adventurous spirit,
her kindness, and the countless little things that made her so special to us. Though we wish we
had more time with her, we are grateful for the years, the memories, and the love we were
blessed to share.

Valchandra leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Wilnoreen Fuller Lewis and Earl B.
Lewis, Sr. (Kim); her brother, Earl B. Lewis, Jr. (Shenese); her six nieces and nephews, Gabriel,
Olivia, Eli, Corinne, Judah, and Elise; her maternal grandmother, Eva Alexander; and a host of
aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

  3. Bonita Denyse Thierry says:

My heart is broken. Val was such a joy to be around and such fun while traveling. She taught me how to properly pack and I still use the steamer she had on our trips. A fashion trendy dresser, she looked great and relaxed. She was our loyal guru, vacation handler. All of our trips were special, one of a kind, cherished and memorable. Such a kind, sweet sweetheart who loved her family and friends with all her soul. Haven’t stopped crying yet, but I know she is in heaven watching over us.
