WILLIAM DAWSON BODIE
07/23/1942 – 12/27/2021
William Dawson Bodie, age 79, passed on December 27, 2021. Known as just “Bodie”, he is survived by his only daughter Amy Kathleen Bodie, sister Carolyn Cockrell and brother Wayne Bodie. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Taylor Bodie, grandfathers Sampson Bodie and Vasco Duffie, mother Rosa Mae Duffie, and sister Gloria Bodie Taylor.
Bodie was a self-made man who left high school for work to support his mother and siblings. Bodie was married to Sandra Ann Bodie for 53 years. Sandra and William moved to Atlanta in 1969, where he worked for Horne Convention & Show Management before starting his construction firm named William D. Bodie Construction Company. His first major job was destructing and re-building the interior of The Life of Georgia building and later refurbishing all of their satellite offices. Bodie became a major builder in Atlanta and the surrounding region. Later in life, Bodie and his daughter Amy started Bodie Enterprises LLC. Bodie was an avid hunter, fisherman, a Girl Scout Troop Leader of Troop 3154, an animal lover and a former professional wrestler, who was the first person to body slam Andre the Giant.
Memorial Services to be announced. Interment will be at Pond Branch Methodist Church in Gilbert, South Carolina.
